The president, Gustavo Petro, the Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez, and the general director of the National Police, General William René Salamanca carried out the promotion ceremony of the now former colonels Ricardo Sánchez Silvestre, William Castaño Ramos and Henry Yesid Bello Cubides, as new generals of the National Police. The event took place at the General Francisco de Paula Santander Police Cadet School, in Bogotá.

General Ricardo Sánchez Silvestre, director of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, is a business administrator and police administrator. He stood out as Police Attaché in Great Britain, commander of the Villavicencio Metropolitan Police and commander of the Sucre Police Department.

William Castaño Ramos, director of the Carabineros and Environmental Protection Department, is a police administrator and business administrator, specialist in internal control, environmental management, human rights and international humanitarian law, and a master’s student in environmental and energy management in organizations.

Henry Yesid Bello Cubides, for his part, has worked at the National Police Service Headquarters, in the Metropolitan Police of the Aburra Valley, the Directorate of Carabineros and Rural Security, the Metropolitan Police of Tunja and the Administrative and Financial Directorate. He is a professional in criminology and law. Currently, he is commander of the Metropolitan Police of Bucaramanga.

The appointments of these three generals, who have more than 29 years of service to the institution, will be linked to the strategic horizons in Urban Citizen Security, Rural Security, Criminal Investigation and International Cooperation. “The institution has forged these men with the best skills to integrate the New Model of Police Service Oriented to People and Territories in order to contribute to the coexistence and citizen security of Colombia,” says the Police statement.

After finishing the promotion ceremony, William René Salamanca, general director of the National Police, gave important statements about the capture of 14 members of the criminal group “La Cordillera”, who operate the city of Pereira and the municipalities of Dosquebradas and La Virginia, in Risaralda. This group has been mainly dedicated to the business of drug trafficking, extortion and hitmen.

“We are in full operation, the investigation continues. His leader has been captured in the jurisdiction of Pereira. This investigation seeks to clarify which of these members threatened the President of the Republic. It was a task that he had also recommended to me,” declares General William Salamanca, about this investigation that has been going on for several months and has been carried out in conjunction with the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol (DIJIN).
