Move the thought: Here is the possibility of success › Cuba › Granma

A new perspective, the transformation of thought within, can change everything. This is a well-known truth but it shone in all its usefulness during the visit that the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, made this Friday morning to the municipality of Yara in the province of Granma.

A sea of green, a population dense with rice was the first scene where the president arrived accompanied by the member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Roberto Morales Ojeda, as well as authorities of the territory.

“This was in ashes,” Julio Sánchez Vázquez, president of the Emilio Herryman Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS), belonging to the Antonio Maceo base business unit (UEB), told the Head of State. Then, given the evidence that the productive entity has gone from failure to success, the president wanted to know what was done to make things improve.

Julio Sánchez spoke of a key premise: the change in mentality, understanding that rice had to be given without a “technological package” -because there was none-, and betting on bioproducts.

“Look at what thinking is,” reasoned the dignitary, who expressed to Julio and other workers that the problems did not disappear from one year to the next as if by magic, but rather that another way of reasoning was opening up. In any case, as the Head of State also reflected, inputs that do not exist today are not renounced, but the day the “technological package” appears again, he said, it will be wise not to give up biofertilizers.

Changes in ways of looking continued to be discussed in the second point of the itinerary: a workshop for the production of local construction materials, known as El Tejar, from which bricks are made with which to build the homes that the territory is needing.

In that place, President Díaz-Canel showed interest in the availability of mud. And knowing that last year there were losses and that in 2024 they are recovering, he asked again what was done to change the state of things.

They explained to him that the workshop had a new oven. And in the middle of the task in which a group of men undertook the hard work of filling molds with the raw material that the earth provides, the president highlighted the potential that a tile entails, from which various products can come out with which to build a home.

The third stop on the itinerary was a cultivated field, from which the enormous scaffolding of an irrigation machine could be seen, located in the basic cooperative production unit (UBPC) El Palmar – which belongs to the Paquito Rosales Municipal Agroindustrial Company -.

It was beautiful to hear, in a brief moment of calm, the story told to journalists by Daynier Roberto Vega Aguilar, president of the Municipal Assembly of Popular Power in Yara: 2023 meant the opportunity to restore the ten irrigation machines that it has the territory.

Given the call made by President Díaz-Canel to turn to science and innovation to solve problems, in Yara the reasoning emerged to start all the irrigation machines, which had not been located fortuitously on certain lands, but rather They were in their respective coordinates because the land promised good returns.

Banana, cassava, corn, mangoes… The land is bearing its fruits because it has been looked at carefully and even with love. The tomato harvest has already passed, and more than 2,900 tons of concentrated pulp were obtained from this saga. And in a short time it will be the turn of the mango spread in the territory. It will then be time to make compotes and resume the production of a prestigious Cuban brand that many of us have not forgotten: Taoro.

In all the visits by the country’s leadership to the municipalities, a concept emerges strongly and sets guidelines: you must have adaptive capacity, move your thinking as circumstances require. If, for example – as President Díaz-Canel Bermúdez said this Friday – one day an irrigation machine breaks, we must be ready for another possible scenario and continue cultivating the land; and all this, without losing sight of the fact that the vital constant is to produce, it is to act with creativity and audacity so that Cuba advances.
