Two students from Santa Cruz will be the Argentine representatives in France, in the 2024 World “Ovinpiades” Olympics, a very important competition related to the production and management of sheep.

Early on Friday morning, the students Lisandro Sanhueza and Darián Pacheco, together with the teacher and veterinarian Martín Kaschewski who will accompany them, began the trip from Gobernador Gregores to El Calafate. From there they took the photograph that illustrates this note, before boarding the flights that will take them from the Ezeiza International Airport to European soil.

“As is usual in our institution, the participation of students abroad has been a practice for several years now,” they stated at the beginning of April from the Provincial Agricultural School No. 1 “Heroínas de Malvinas”, of Gobernador Gregores, when heard the news. There, Lisandro and Darián are in their 6th year.

Already on that date, work was being done on the preparation of this trip, which was possible thanks to the strong and articulated work of the Provincial Executive Branch, where different areas intervened; together with institutions of the National State and the French embassy in Argentina.

“The trip intrigues me a lot since they have another type of production there and I hope to learn a lot. I want to know how they work and learn about the breeds,” said Darián Pacheco from the pre-boarding lounge at the El Calafate airport.

Regarding the reality of Santa Cruz regarding sheep activity, he said: “I believe that sheep production and management in our province are very important since the sale of wool provides profit, provides employment sources, and meat. Not as much as milk production is in France.”

His colleague Lisandro Sanhueza also expressed his expectations: “I want to bring new ideas to Santa Cruz and try to pour everything that is done there into the province. “You can sell wool, meat and you can also sell genetics.”

“You have to put a lot into studying, because this helps personal growth,” he highlighted.

Although the contest ends on June 1, Professor Martín Kaschewski and both Santa Cruz students will return to the country on Saturday the 8th, since they will remain in France touring educational and productive establishments.

From the Provincial Council of Education, together with all the areas that made this outstanding participation of Santa Cruz students possible, they expressed their satisfaction and support to Lisandro, Darián and Martín.
