Ángela Echeverry Atehortúa, nature and wildlife documentary filmmaker, explained in dialogue with Planeta Caracol the importance of the graduation of 127 students as “biocitizens”, who are people with a high level of consciousness that allows you to relate to yourself in a respectful way, respect nature and teach others to respect it.

According to the UNESCO definition: a biocitizen takes care of himself, takes care of others and takes care of the environment are concepts that are related to education for the sustainable development, environmental ethics and cultural rights.

These concepts imply an awareness and responsibility of citizens regarding the biological and cultural diversity of the planet, as well as a commitment to the protection and conservation of ecosystems and natural resources for present and future generations.

Caring for the environment expresses an attitude of protection, conservation and appreciation of nature, ecosystems and natural resources, recognizing the interdependence between living beings and the planet. These are the values of biocitizenship in the territories, creating a model of environmental education that can be replicated in the country.
