“Democracy is not possible without public media”

Javier Miley’s government raises security as one of the fundamental flags. And that shows. The center of Córdoba woke up this Saturday all fenced, with water cannons, numerous patrol cars and police officers in the different streets. In that framework, Prior to the arrival of the national leader, a solidarity hug was organized in front of Radio Nacional in defense of the public media.

“We embrace Radio Nacional, we embrace public radio, the plurality of voices, the democratization of the word. Let us remember that without public media this democracy is not possible, we are one of the many voices that must be heard and today, threatening to privatize the radio is, in some way, censoring the voice of all the radio workers and also the voices that sound today on Radio Nacional,” he told this medium. Pierina Propato, delegate of the Press and Communication Union Circle of Córdoba.

In that same line, Facundo Arzamendia, host of the National Informa program, thanked the plenary session of the CGT, the CTA, for the support they had to carry out open radio where different voices were expressed as is done on National Radio on a daily basis.

“If today the public media are in danger it is because there is a DNU that allows it, that intervenes in the radio, because there is a basic law that advances, not only against the labor reform, but with the hunger and adjustment policies of this government,” Arzamendia pointed out.

For its part, Francisco Leites, delegate of SATSAID, the Television Union in the Radio and Television Services (SRT) of the UNCreferred to the presence of university workers in defense of public media in general and rejecting the adjustment and emptying of the SRT: “For us it is essential to participate today because Milei’s policy carries out an adjustment that puts Our jobs and our means are in suspense. We do not want the adjustment of Milei or the adjustment of Rector Jhon Boretto, and we want to send the political message to Congress and to all institutions that there is no one left over in the SRT, neither in RTA nor in the state”.

The solidarity embrace of Radio Nacional was joined by United Fans of Córdoba which brings together fans of the different clubs in the city and who fundamentally speak out in defense of the members’ club and against sports corporations. And as a gesture of solidarity to Radio Nacional and against the claims of this government, because it is specified in DNU 70, to privatize the clubs, They held a soccer match in front of Radio Nacional with teams made up of the different fans of Córdoba clubs.
