The national final of the Intercollegiate Games, which is taking place in Bogotá and Valledupar, continues to bring joy to Antioquia. In the country’s capital, the Antioqueños demonstrated their dominance by competing in three new finals in table tennis, obtaining victory in each of them: in Women’s Pre-Youth Individual and in Women’s and Men’s Youth Individual.

With these three new gold medals, Antioquia established itself as the best in the discipline, accumulating a total of 16 medals: nine gold, four silver and three bronze. Bogotá was in second place with four gold, three silver and four bronze, while Valle del Cauca was third with one gold, one silver and nine bronze.

In the finals played on this day, the Antioquians who won gold were:

  • Ana Gómez: took the gold by beating María Lardino from Bogota in a vibrant match 3-1, with partials of 11-8, 9-11, 11-9 and 11-8.
  • María Monroy: triumphed against her Antioquian teammate Isabela Henao 3-2, in a close match with partial scores of 6-11, 11-9, 11-8, 7-11 and 11-6. Henao kept the money.
  • Simón Sierra: won gold by defeating Ernesto Valencia from Boyacá 3-0, with partial scores of 11-4, 12-10 and 11-9.

“I entered the game very focused, as I always do, and I just set my mind to do well,” said Ana Gómez, a native of Rionegro, who managed to hang three gold and one silver medals on her chest in the games.

In the same way, Simón Sierra, who won four medals in the tournament: three gold and one silver, expressed: “it was a tight match and I am happy for this gold. Representing Antioquia will always be a source of pride and even more so with the sport that I love.”

The champion roster also included Ana María Gómez Rodríguez, Andrés Felipe Gallego García, David Millán Bustamante, Isabela Henao Ramírez, Juan Alberto Garzón Torres, María Fernanda Monroy Giraldo and Sara Idarraga García. These talented young people, from Rionegro, Envigado, El Carmen de Viboral and Medellín, reflect the dedication and effort on their path to excellence.

Women’s youth football: a difficult debut

In Bogotá, the Antioquia women’s youth soccer team made its debut in the sporting event. On court number 3 of the High Performance Center, the Antioquias fell 3-2 against the Bolivarians. The rivals scored three goals in the first 16 minutes, but our team did not give up. With the score against, the El Bagre students showed great tenacity.

Natalia del Carmen Yepes Toro scored a goal, and with two minutes remaining, Daniela Ríos Zambrano scored the second goal for Antioquia. Although they had several opportunities during the second half, they were unable to score more goals. Despite the defeat, the perseverance and fighting spirit of the Antioquian team stands out.

Basketball and volleyball in Valledupar: more wins for Antioquia

For its part, in Valledupar, the Antioquia women’s pre-youth basketball team defeated its counterpart from Meta 37-27 in a match held at 10:30 am, at the La Gota Fría High Performance Center coliseum.

In volleyball, the Antioquia juniors also shone by beating Norte de Santander 3-1, with scores of 23-25, 25-11, 25-10 and 25-9. This meeting took place at the Julio Monsalvo Castilla municipal coliseum, at 8:00 pm

The Antioquia representative of pre-youth volleyball is made up of students from the Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento Educational Institution, in Carepa, Antioquia, which has been carrying out an outstanding process led by teacher Sandra Tascón.

These results demonstrate the strength and sporting commitment of the Antioquian students, who continue to lead the general medal table in the Intercollegiate Games, with 49 gold, 28 silver and 17 bronze, for a total of 94 medals.
