The government of India sent humanitarian assistance to Cuba this Sunday, consisting of raw materials for the manufacture of medicines, thus demonstrating its commitment to the historical friendship between both countries.

The shipment includes 90 tonnes of nine active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) produced in India, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement from New Delhi.

This shipment, which set sail this Sunday from the port of Mundra in Gujarat, will be used by Cuban drug manufacturers to produce essential antibiotics in tablets, capsules, syrups and injectionsnecessary to treat chronic communicable diseases, according to the official source.

The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that this assistance reaffirms India’s position as the “Pharmacy of the World” and underlines its commitment to the historic friendship with Cuba, a relationship that will reach 65 years of formal diplomatic ties in 2025.

Last Thursday, after a question from Prensa Latina about the impact on the Cuban people of arbitrary and extraterritorial measures such as the United States blockade and the unjust designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism by Washington, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, Randhir Jaiswal, confirmed the strong and friendly ties between India and the largest of the Antilles.

“We have very strong and friendly ties with Cuba,” stated the Indian diplomat in response to the Latin American news agency.
