They announce a new storm for the central-southern area of the country with O’Higgins among the affected regions

Last May was characterized by being one of the coldest in recent decades.

It is expected that the Tuesday night Rainfall begins in the central-southern area of Chile, extending until Friday and affecting from the O’Higgins Region to the south.

The phenomenon will arrive in the first week of June, bringing abundant rains and strong winds. Although it has been described as a “gigantic cyclone”, the agroclimatologist from the University of Talca, Patricio González Colvilleclarified that it is a fairly extensive frontal system from north to south with intense associated low pressure, known in meteorology as a cyclone, but it is not a hurricane or typhoon like those that form in tropical climates.

In that sense, the expert explained that “all the frontal systems that affect Chile bring an associated low pressure, In meteorology it is called a cyclone, it is not a hurricane or a tornado, because for this we need to have a warm sea, as is the case of the tropical Atlantic Ocean. We have, on our coasts, an ocean with colder temperatures, so the only thing it can generate is a storm of rain and wind.”

Regarding the amount of water that is projected, there will be a greater concentration in the Maule Region, where around 80 millimeters in total are expected from Wednesday to Friday. While in O’Higgins, the situation will be less, since rainfall would not exceed 3 mm in said period of days, according to the Meteored site.

However, the meteorological portal reports that more intense rains will arrive next weekend with about 30 millimeters for the region.
