Lorca, García Márquez and a comment on the way of dressing, in the EBAU Language exam

The beginning of the first day of the EBAU in La Rioja has passed normally in both venues (Logroño and Calahorra). Of the 1,540 students enrolled, there have been four absences, two in each of them.

The second block consisted of a syntactic analysis and the third dealt with literature. The options were ‘The House of Bernarda Alba’, by Federico García Lorca, and ‘Chronicle of a Death Foretold’, by García Márquez, which tend to be quite recurrent texts.

The test has been completed by an exposition of a literary theme to choose between the poetry of Blas de Otero and the theater of Buero Vallejo.

The EBAU will continue until Wednesday

More than 1,500 students are taking part in a decisive test to define their professional career, in the Baccalaureate Assessment for University Access (EBAU), which will last until next Wednesday. In total, there are 1,540 students who face this ordinary call (1,433 are examined in the mandatory and voluntary phase that they have chosen, and 107 only in the voluntary phase), a figure that represents 33.4% more than those who took it. they did in the 2016-17 academic year (1,154 people enrolled, 1,092 in the compulsory phase).

Since then, the number of people enrolled in the tests has gone from 1,261 in 2017-18 to 1,235 in the following academic year (-26) and to 1,654 in the year of the pandemic (+419), in which the EBAU was developed more lax. In the next call, the students who took the different entrance exams fell to 1,456 (a figure that represents a decrease of 198 people). Already in the year 21-22, 42 more desks were enabled (there were 1,498 students enrolled) and, in the last academic year, registrations fell to 1,456.

News and schedules

Students must take a test that includes small variations from the one developed in the last academic year. Of these, the most significant is that Riojan students will be able to choose between History of Spain and History of Philosophy in the compulsory phase and take the optional exam in the other. Two subjects that make up, together with Spanish Language and Literature, Foreign Language (English), and the specific mandatory subject selected for the test (it varies depending on the modality chosen for the test), the four subjects that this mandatory phase will deal with. .

As in the rest of the calls – the extraordinary one will take place on July 3, 4 and 5 -, the test has begun with Spanish Language and Literature (at 10:00 a.m.) and continues with Foreign Language (at 12:30 p.m.). In the afternoon, students will take the History of Spain exam (at 4:00 p.m.) and History of Philosophy (at 6:30 p.m.).

310 students take the exam in Calahorra

María Ángeles Martínez Calvo, vice-rector for students and university extension, recalled today in Calahorra, just before starting the EBAU, that of the 1,540 students who take the exam in La Rioja, 310 do so at the IES Marco Fabio Quintiliano sports center and in the Europe pavilion. The start of the tests took place completely normally and with the inevitable nerves of the students. The majority consider that they arrive at this phase with good preparation and the most feared thing is the time they have to complete the answers, especially in language.

Today they begin with language and the subjects of the general phase are examined. They will continue with English and this year, as a novelty, they can choose between the history of Spain and the history of philosophy, this afternoon. In this case, he comments that, at the level of all of La Rioja, there has been a balance in the choice (more than 700 in each one) and that 51 kids have chosen both because depending on the grade they want to take, they may score both in the weighting parameters of each university and that is why they choose to take both exams.

Tomorrow there will be the modality subjects and then the voluntary phase in the remainder of Tuesday and Wednesday the 5th.

Regarding the future of the EBAU, he speaks of uncertainty in all aspects. “We are awaiting a royal decree and we do not know what the next course or the subsequent ones will be like,” he says.

In general, he cites that compared to last year the number of students taking the EBAU has increased by more than a hundred.
