Red alert for dengue in Armenia: 1,224 confirmed cases and two deaths

The Armenian city is facing a significant dengue outbreak, with 460 confirmed cases in April and 1,224 total cases to date, including 481 hospitalizations and two deaths. Epidemiologist Liliana Quintero Álvarez warns that the number of cases could increase during the long weekends and the holiday season, and would extend until September.

The alternation of warm weather and rain favors the proliferation of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, the vector of dengue. Therefore, it is crucial that citizens follow the preventive measures provided by the Municipal Administration and seek immediate medical attention in case of serious symptoms.

Preventive measures to contain the dengue outbreak:

– Renew the water in animal waterers and vases regularly.

– Clean water tanks with water, soap and brush.

– Use repellents and mosquito nets or awnings, especially around sick patients and in areas where children sleep.

– Eliminate solid waste that can block drains or accumulate water.

– Avoid aquatic plants that can serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

It is essential that the community comes together in these actions to prevent the spread of dengue and protect public health.
