In 2023, 272 cases of femicides were registered in the country and 5 in Entre Ríos

On June 3, 3J, commemorating the day of “Ni Una Menos”, the Women’s Office of the Superior Court of Justice of Entre Ríos, reported the National Registry of Femicides for the year 2023. In Entre Ríos, in that period They recorded 5 femicides. At the national level, according to the report provided by the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, 250 direct victims of femicide and 22 victims of linked femicide were counted, which implies 272 fatal victims of gender violence in Argentina during 2023. The 250 victims Direct victims of femicide include 245 cis female victims and 5 trans/transvestite female victims.

In Entre Ríos, during 2023, 5 judicial cases were registered as direct femicides. Of the victims, two are in the age group of 35 to 44 years; one to 18 to 24 years old; another to those from 25 to 34 and another to those from 45 to 59 years of age.

The direct victims of femicide in our province were on average 37.4 years old at the time of the incident.

At least 2 direct victims presented conditions of intersectionality: one was an interprovincial migrant and another was in a situation of prostitution at the time of the incident.

In addition, it was reported that at least 1 of the direct victims had been missing or lost before their body was found.

Regarding the 5 links between the direct victims of femicide and the active subjects, in one case they were spouses and lived together, in another they were ex-spouses without cohabitation, in 1 they were ex-partners without cohabitation and in another they had another type of sexual-emotional relationship and they didn’t live together either.

Furthermore, in one case the victim and the active subject had another type of bond: they were co-workers and, from elements in the judicial case, it appears that the active subject was obsessed with the victim.

In the cases of direct femicide, all of the victims knew the active subjects.

OM Registry

In 2015, it was resolved by General Agreement No. 16/15 of 06-09-15, Point 3) of the STJER to designate the Women’s Office of the Superior Court of Justice of Entre Ríos (OM) to carry out the compilation and subsequent referral of all data linked to causes of femicides and transfemicides processed in the province of Entre Ríos, whether or not they have been classified as such.

Therefore, the organization is responsible for annually reporting all the data requested by the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation related to those violent deaths of cis women and trans/transvestite women that occur in the province.

The Registry includes all cases of femicide of women (girls, adolescents and/or adults) that occur each year and are perpetrated by men for reasons associated with their gender, whether or not they have been classified as femicide.
Conceiving the murders of women for gender reasons in this way allows for a deeper understanding of the phenomenon and its causes, including a social component that centers on the fact that all expressions of violence against women are rooted in constructions of power that organizes social relations between men and women.

The procedure to be followed by the OM is as follows: all information is collected on deaths of cis women, trans women/transvestites, that occurred in the Province of Entre Ríos each year, then periodic communications are established with the Fiscal Units of each jurisdiction where the event occurred, thereby extracting all relevant data for the purposes of the Registry. Once the information is obtained from the Fiscal Units, and following the protocol to know if it was femicide, violent death or natural death, it is studied in the OM to finally complete the forms that will be sent to the CSJN for the final preparation of the Registry. National.
