Within the framework of the alliance that the University of La Serena maintains with the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of the Environment of the Coquimbo Region and the National Service for Women and Gender Equality, the talk “Training for the 21st century: Gender and Environment in the Classrooms”, this June 4, from 2 to 5:30 p.m., at the Municipal Theater of Ovalle, located on Calle Carmen N°252.

With this instance, the University seeks to promote gender equality and care for the environment in the classrooms, fundamental issues at a global level that are aligned with the state commitment to comply with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established in the 2030 Agenda of the Nations. United, recognizing that education is a key pillar to achieve these objectives, based on joint work with its academics and students, thus wanting to strengthen the educational system at the regional level.

On this occasion four speakers will participate: the Regional Director of SernamEG of Coquimbo, Priscilla Olivares Verasay; the geographer and Focal Point for Climate Change, Local Environmental Management and Citizen Participation of the SEREMI of the Environment of the Coquimbo Region, Pilar Pérez González; and the academics and researchers of Conecta ULS, Mg. Coralina Muñoz and Dr. Sebastián Rossel.

In relation to this, the SEREMI of the Environment of the Coquimbo Region, Leonardo Gros, stressed that “this meeting is a great opportunity to bring environmental challenges closer to the community, to address the problem of climate change with a gender perspective and At the same time, including a resilience approach in the classroom is the opportunity to seek, together with the community, solutions to the environmental problems that afflict us as a region.”

The regional director of SernamEG, Priscilla Olivares Verasay, also referred to her participation in this event, ensuring that “we are very committed to carrying out this tremendous initiative promoted by Conecta ULS, focused on highlighting environmental education with a gender focus in the classrooms. looking to the future. For her part, the USerena academic, Mg. Coralina Muñoz said that “I would like to invite directors, teachers, pedagogy students and active actors in education to a crucial event to discuss and promote the inclusion of gender and environmental issues in the educational field.”
