Enio Arroyo Gómez, a visual artist from Nicoya, Guanacaste, will make history by becoming the first Costa Rican to exhibit his work at the prestigious On The Fringe Gallery, located in the famous Tribeca neighborhood of New York (United States). The exhibition will take place from July 10 to 16.

Tribeca, located in the heart of New York, is a neighborhood that has become a destination for art lovers in the last decade. Its historic buildings are the prelude to creative and cultural spaces.

Enio’s solo exhibition will include works from multiple series created between 2016 and 2024, highlighting Sproutsa collection exhibited in 2016 at the National Gallery of the National Museum of Costa Rica. Of the 350 pieces that make up this series, 15 were acquired for the Museum’s permanent collection.

The works will be displayed in chronological order, guiding visitors through the creative process and artistic themes explored by the artist. Featured series include Goroff, which addresses fake appearances and the concept of having a place in society; and Meistrel that fuses explorations of the human psyche with studies of color palettes inspired by Mesoamerican ceramics.

Arroyo began his career as a painter in 2007, during a theater residency at the University of the Arts in Utrecht, Netherlands. He trained as a sculptor and set designer at the National University of La Plata (UNLP), in Argentina. Throughout his career, he has been primarily active in Latin America.

In February 2024, he obtained the Martín and Lorraine Kaminsky residency at the Mana Contemporary Cultural Center, located in New Jersey. He was selected among numerous applicants and believes that this opportunity has opened the doors to the New York art market. The residency will allow you to work on a specific theme for 3 or 4 months, attract the attention of gallerists and collectors, and establish links with the local council.

“With my art I can delve into the subconscious in a very subtle way, because it comes from a very sincere and personal place and I don’t care if I provoke joy, sadness, fear, anger, hallucination, shame, or a mixture of all of them,” said the artist.

Entry to the Enio Arroyo exhibition is free and the general public can enter from July 11 to 16, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
