Havana, June 4 (RHC) Since last May, specialized brigades have been working on the first of the four new solar parks that the province of Santiago de Cuba will have, according to what Orlando Riera Girón, Investment Director of the Electric Company, informed Granma.

Progress is noted “in the cleaning and clearing of 40 hectares in the El Cupey area, in San Luis, where modern solar panel modules will be placed that will contribute about 20 megawatts to the National Electric System (SEN).”

This park, which must synchronize with the SEN this year, will also make it possible “to save oil and increase the generation capacity from solar energy that is currently limited to the Micro 3 sites, in the main municipality; Río Grande, in San Luis, and Mayarí, Second Front,” said Riera Girón.

He also highlighted that it is part of a process conceived until 2027, “with three other parks with similar characteristics in El Maniel, Palma Soriano; Las Guásimas, in Contramaestre, and another in an area yet to be defined; which will make it possible for about 80 megawatts to be delivered to the SEN in the province.

The program that benefits isolated homes (around 2,000) with photovoltaic panels also continues to be implemented, to which another 277 located in mountainous areas of the municipality of Guamá will be added.

As part of the Lemi Project, “the review and maintenance of around 400 panels that are faulty or with defective batteries is carried out for replacement,” added the Investment Director of the Santiago de Cuba Electric Company. (Source: Granma)
