The inflation recorded in Córdoba for the month of May 2024 was 4.8%, according to the Department of Statistics and Trends of the Center of Storekeepers and Retailers of the Province.

The index shows a strong deceleration compared to the previous period (April 2024) and evidencing a clear downward trend; returning to an inflation level below 5%, which has not happened since the first months of 2022.

Year-on-year inflation amounts to 332%. While the accumulated inflation so far in 2024 is 79.6%. Inflation projected for all of 2024 decreases again, and stands at 160%.

Regarding the Total Basic Basket, during May 2024 it reached an amount of $998,792. A sum that a family of 4 members needed during that period to avoid falling below the poverty line.

The indigence line, for that same type of family of 4 members, stood at $575,690 during May 2024, according to the registered value of the Basic Food Basket

Volume sales in local businesses, in the “Food” category (butcher shops, warehouses, poultry shops, delicatessens, greengrocers, etc.) fell during May 2024, by 29.6% compared to the same period of the previous year (for the same number of customers ).

This decrease is practically identical to those registered during March and April of the current year; which could mean a “floor” at a very deep level; from where, without an urgent recovery of purchasing power, it is difficult to rise.
