Havana.- Cuban environmentalists transmitted messages of recognition to the province of Las Tunas for having won the right to organize the central activities for World Environment Day on June 5.

We congratulate the people of Las Tunas for the results of their management in the implementation of the National Environmental Strategy, in particular the local development program and food security, said Adianez Taboada Zamora, vice minister of Citma, in a recent meeting with specialized journalists.

He added that his actions are a contribution to the application of the State Plan to confront climate change and environmental administration at the base, one of the priorities of the Law of the Natural Resources and Environment System, in correspondence with the Constitution of the Republic of 2019.

Odalys Goicochea Cardoso, general director of Environment, Citma, praised the administrative control of discharges from that eastern territory of the nation, the flows of dangerous waste and its treatment in economic entities.

In addition, its protected areas, environmental education, the effects of desertification and drought, and the programs dedicated to confronting them.

Maritza García García, president of the Environment Agency, one of the three of the aforementioned organization, also joined the tribute to Las Tunas, the first to inaugurate the celebration for the aforementioned anniversary in 1996.

He emphasized the importance of its Botanical Garden, considered one of the best preserved in the insular Caribbean due to the wealth of its plants and components from various countries.

It has a large collection of palms, a cuabal in the background that represents America and there is a large part of the floristic wealth of Las Tunas and the region, according to specialists in the field.
