Cauca: they demand not to involve the civilian population in confrontations

The Ombudsman in Cauca, Daniel Molano, reiterated the call to illegal groups not to involve the civilian population in their armed actions.

“The community always calls for help when they carry out attacks on the public force.”because their homes are close to military or police units, hence, as an organization that defends the facts of the populations, we accompany them, to the extent possible, so that these situations do not end up affected,” added Daniel Molano.

This call arose after they registered two attacks, with drones, against the Army in the municipalities of Argelia and Suárez this past weekend, as members of this institution confirmed.

“First it was in the El Pepinal sector of the El Plateado district, Algeria, where dissidents from the Carlos Patiño front used drones to attack the soldiers who remain in the area,” said soldiers who are at the site, considered the Micay Canyon.

Later, but in the La Salvajina sector of the municipality of Suárez, The members of the Jaime Martínez faction resorted to this same modality to throw tattoos at soldiers. In the midst of this attack, a professional soldier was injured after being hit by one of these devices.

“The fear of the communities is that, when using these drones, there is a latent risk that the explosives they launch end up affecting homes.”hence these cases were reported to the Ombudsman’s Office to find a way to mediate so that they are not involved in this war that they did not want,” added the Ombudsman of Cauca.

For this reason, and given the increase in military actions against illegal armed groups that operate in the department, such as the FARC dissidents, Peasants and indigenous people constantly publish on social networks the call to respect their lives.

“As mediators we seek above all to protect the lives of the people who are in the territories, we also assist them because there are many people who, for example, in Algeria, Cauca, chose to leave the rural area so as not to be in the middle of those confrontations,” says Daniel Molano.
