Does Jujuy adhere to the measure?

The main claim is salary: University unions report a loss of purchasing power of more than 40% so far this year. In the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires there will be a mobilization at 12 noon in Plaza Congreso, while in Jujuy they also comply with the measures.

Does Jujuy join the national university strike?

The Plenary of General Secretariats of CONADU Historicawhich met on Thursday, May 30, resolved to call a national teaching strike for Tuesday, June 4 and Wednesday, June 5 due to the persistent lack of responses from the National Government to the salary claim.

In this frame, ADIUNJu announced a strike without attendance at workplaces, based on the results of the survey carried out among its members. “Almost 50% spoke in favor of the measure of force for 48 hours,” they indicated.

Reasons for the national university strike

The CONADU Historica calls for a national strike, in the 57 universities, on June 4 and 5:

  1. For a monthly salary increase to avoid continuing to lose to inflation
  2. Recovery of what was lost since December
  3. Salary guarantee update
  4. Restitution of FONID and training funds
  5. Emergency fund to avoid the bankruptcy of social works

What happened between the National Government and the universities

The Government reached an agreement, first with the UBA and then with the rest of the national universities, regarding the inflation update of operating expenses, which represent 10% of the university budget.

However, there was no agreement in the joint meeting, where the Ministry of Human Capital negotiates with the unions the percentage of updating the salaries of teachers and non-teachers, who represent the remaining 90% of the higher education budget.

In the five months of the current government administration, university teachers have accumulated a salary update of 61.4%, according to data from Conadu. That percentage includes the 9% announced for May, which was rejected by the Trade Union Front. Meanwhile, accumulated inflation since December exceeds 100%. According to figures released by the UBA, since January university professors have lost 42% of their purchasing power.

The national government offered the Trade Union Front a 9% update for May, which is in addition to the 16% granted in February, 12% in March and 8% in April. The joint committee has been meeting every month, but without agreement. The May meeting had gone into an intermission until Tuesday the 28th, when the Government reiterated its proposal and the Trade Union Front announced the strike for Tuesday the 4th and Wednesday the 5th.
