More than 570 families receive aid for floods in Casanare

In a humanitarian mission led by Governor César Ortiz Zorro and Social Manager Diana Soler, support has been provided to several municipalities affected by the recent floods in Casanare. The collaboration between mayors, relief organizations, deputies, FFMM and councilors has allowed us to reach remote places such as Limonal and Guamal, on the shores of the Meta River in Maní.

The municipalities of Aguazul, Villanueva, Tauramena, Sabanalarga, Monterrey, Paz de Ariporo, Orocué, Támara, Maní, Pore and Yopal have witnessed this humanitarian action. A total of 570 families, mainly farmers, have received assistance after the floods caused by the La Curama, Pauto, Cravo Sur, Cusiana, Meta, Unete and Upía rivers.

A moving story is that of Mrs. Aura Cruz, a resident of the Limonal village (Maní). This peasant woman recounted with tears the loss of 16 hectares of rice devastated by the Meta River. However, the visit and the help provided by the Governor were a relief to her pain, since she had never before seen a leader care about her land. In this context, the departmental leader promised to deliver fiberglass bongos.

The situation in the territory is critical, especially considering the forecast of a La Niña phenomenon that will consolidate between July and August. Additionally, June is historically the rainiest month of the year. For this reason, the Departmental Disaster Risk Management Council approved the state of public calamity in Casanare. The Governor, César Ortiz Zorro, called on the National Government to provide support in the face of disasters caused by the rains.

To date, 214 emergencies have been reported, including 133 floods, 51 landslides and 30 windstorms. The damage affects 3,933 families, with 12 bridges damaged, two fatalities and 168 homes partially or totally affected.
