In 2024, the day celebrated every June 5, instituted by the United Nations, is aimed at topics such as land restoration, desertification and resilience to the effects of drought, aspects that are closely related to the loss of biodiversity, highlighted the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) on the occasion of the date.

Also on the deterioration of ecosystems at a planetary level and whose rehabilitation can positively influence the reduction of the effects of climate change and guarantee the food security of nations.

The program of activities for the date includes audiovisual screenings, theoretical events, keynote conferences, planting of trees throughout the national territory, socialization of public good messages on virtual social networks and the mass media, and participatory activities with the communities.

The objective of the day is to raise awareness about the need to restore ecosystems to stop land degradation processes and recover their response capacities in the face of extreme drought events, said Citma.

The eastern province of Las Tunas deserved to host the celebrations for its results in the work system and control of the implementation of the National Environmental Strategy at the territorial level, with an agreement formalized by the Provincial Council.

During 2024, Citma commemorates its 30 years, so the central activities for June 5 are also dedicated to this date.
