In this Thursday’s session the councilors approved an initiative to convene a round of consultations with all the actors involved in the issue of passenger transport through the use of applications.

The initiative was promoted by the councilor Titi Barlettapresident of the Public Services, Transportation and Environment Commission, who spoke with AIR and advanced details of the proposal. In that sense, he pointed out the need to return to the issue to establish a regulatory framework for a growing activity in the city.

Although it is not yet regulated, it works as a system that provides employment to Santa Fe residents and a transportation service to users who choose these digital applications.

“It is essential to move towards intelligent mobility and applications are an alternative, but we must also avoid the unfair competition suffered by taxi drivers and taxi drivers. I believe that the regulation of private passenger transport systems through digital platforms is necessary and cannot be postponed,” he said.

Our goal is not to slow down progress and ensure that technological advance is fair to all the city’s transportation systems, also providing security to users.”, he remarked.

For Barletta, it is time to organize the services and begin to work as strategic allies and thus improve the offer. To achieve this, he pointed out, “it is necessary that both digital platform drivers and taxi and remis drivers meet the same standards of safety, training and vehicle maintenance.”

And he added: “Only in this way can we guarantee that all users receive a safe and quality service, regardless of the contracting method,”

To conclude, Titi Barletta indicated: We must not forget that we approved an ordinance that declared a transportation emergency. We definitely must generate options. Times change, technology advances much faster than our ability to debate and generate consensus, but I think the time has come”.
