The AAT Challenger Santander Santa Fe edition, which is held on the clay courts of Lawn Tennis in the provincial capital, has already defined its quarterfinal matches.

This Thursday the remaining round of 16 matches were played, which determined that the number of Argentine tennis players among the eight best in the competition rose to five. Lautaro Midon and Andrea Collarini, who had made it on Wednesday, were joined by Tomas Farjat, Facundo Mena and Gonzalo Villanueva.

In the first round, Mena won the Argentine duel and beat Guido Justo 7-6 and 6-2 to qualify for his first Challenger quarterfinals in the country. In that instance he will face the American Trey Hilderbrand who left the Peruvian Gonzalo Bueno on the road 5-7, 6-4 and 6-1.

Farjat, for his part, eliminated the Spanish Diego Barreto Sánchez this Thursday 6-4 and 6-3 in one hour and 27 minutes of play. The 23-year-old native of Villa Ramallo made it into the top eight of a tournament of this type after almost a year.

The player from the classification will seek the semifinals against a compatriot, Gonzalo Villanueva, who this Thursday defeated the Argentine Ezequiel Monferrer by a double 6-4.

The AAT Challenger Santander Santa Fe edition awards 50 ATP points to the champion and distributes U$D 50,000 in prizes. This is the fourth tournament of this type organized by the Argentine Tennis Association so far this year, after two events in Buenos Aires and the remaining one in Tucumán.
