The VI Division of the Chilean Army wins the 2024 Infantry Patrol Competition

The team of the VI Division of Army won first place in the Lieutenant Colonel Juan José San Martín Infantry Patrol Competition held from June 2 to 5 to commemorate the Assault and Taking of Morro de Arica and the Glories of the Infantry Weapon of the Chilean’s Army.

This event, organized by the Ground Operations Command (COT) and executed by 1st Armored Brigade Cuirassiers of the VI Army Division, as published Infodefensa.combrought together representatives of the six divisions of the institution and a patrol of the Aviation Infantry Group N°44 of the Iª Air Brigade of the Chilean Air Force (FACh).

The patrollers traveled 70 kilometers through highland and desert terrain, overcoming different combat tests to reach the urban center of the city of Arica and finally ascend to the summit of Morro, thus recreating the historical route taken 144 years ago by the Chilean Army during the Pacific War.

Regarding the places, the VI Division obtained a gold medal for its performance with a score of 97.98%, the V Division with 93.80%, the I Division with 91.26% and the III Mountain Division with 90.8%; silver medal IV Division with a score of 84.87% and the II Motorized Division with 82.04%; and recognition from the FACh patrol for its score of 52.98%.

The VI Army Division team will represent the institution in the international exercise Cambrian Patrol of the British Army which will take place in October this year in the Brecon Beacons mountains of the Cambrian and in the swamplands of central Wales, hoping to repeat the gold medal achieved by that unit’s patrol in the 2023 version.
