In this sense, he announced that this weekend he will hold a meeting with the city mayor, Raúl Jorge, to define how the BEGU system can continue to be maintained.

What the Mayor said about the BEGU system
The mayor of San Salvador de Jujuy, Raúl Jorge, expressed deep concern about inequality in transportation public between the interior provinces and the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA). He stressed that this disparity is forcing inland locations to charge much higher ticket rates than in the country’s capital.
Jorge detailed the difficult financial situation facing public transportation in Jujuy. “Right now it is $690 but we have to take it to at least 790,” he said in an interview with Radio Miter.
On the other hand, he stressed that it is a possibility “annul an achievement of the government that was the Free and Universal Student Ticket (BEGU) for nearly 60 thousand primary, secondary and university or ele children. We would have to cut it because we cannot finance it,” said Jorge.
“The municipality is not in a position to face it. The other alternative is to take the ticket to $1,200 but it would be very high for all the families that use the bus,” he added.
The situation is generating a significant impact on the budget of Jujuy families, who allocate between $60,000 and $70,000 per month just for transportation. “People are having a very high transportation budget. Between 60 and 70 thousand pesos,” said the mayor.
