Robbery in a restaurant and 19 stab wounds: The chronology of the case that ended in a crime in front of the bus terminal

During the day this Thursday, the formalization hearing was held for MGC, a Venezuelan citizen who was arrested as an accessory for the murder of Ignacio Caroca Aguilera (37), which occurred during the early hours of Tuesday, on Amunategui Street, in front of the bus terminal. buses from La Serena.

At the hearing, the prosecution asked the court to decree the precautionary measure of preventive detention for the 25-year-old Venezuelan citizen, which was not accepted. As justification, Judge Pedro Rojas indicated that said measure “does not have sufficient support to justify its decree.”

Given this decision, the prosecutor appealed, so it will be the Court of Appeals of La Serena who, in a new hearing, will rule on the matter.

CHRONOLOGY OF CRIME

Although initially the hypothesis was considered that the driver of the application would have followed the victim after she had apparently not paid him for a requested ride, according to what was stated by the prosecution, the genesis of the altercation would have been due to a restaurant robbery.

At this point, obtaining the images from the security cameras by the Investigative Police (PDI) and the statements of witnesses were key to determining the dynamics of how the events would have happened.

According to what was detailed by the prosecutor in the case, Nicolás Shertzer, and according to the statements of the owner of the house where MGC and LARG rented a room – and who also owned a restaurant located on Balmaceda Avenue – they indicate that at dawn on On June 4, he alerted the defendant to noises inside the food establishment: it was a robbery in the premises.

After the crime, LARG left the home and told the owner of the restaurant that he would return the stolen items, since, according to the statements, the assailant had taken liquor and drinks in a fair car. In this way, the alleged perpetrator of the crime got into his vehicle, an orange Kia Morning, carrying a knife, to chase the victim.

In the camera images you can see how Caroca is running from El Santo Avenue in the direction of Route 5 North, when he is intercepted by the vehicle driven by the Venezuelan citizen, even entering against traffic to catch up with him.

“At 3:30 a.m., in front of the bus terminal of the regional capital, he stabbed the victim 19 times in different parts of the body with a knife, two of which were fatal,” detailed prosecutor Shertzer.

After the attack, the alleged perpetrator returned to his home, “where he was with his partner, accused of concealment, who took the murder weapon, hid it, and also began to clean traces of blood from the vehicle,” the prosecutor detailed.

CAR RENTAL

However, said vehicle was not his property, but was rented and used to work in passenger transportation applications. This is why, after the homicide, the couple went to the owner’s home in Coquimbo.

According to this person’s story, at around 4:30 a.m., the couple arrived at their home. When asked why she was there at that time, LARG responded that she “had a problem, which she would tell me later. He came to give me the car, because he had decided to go with his partner.”

In this way, pending the ruling of the Court of Appeals of La Serena regarding the precautionary measure for MGC, all the procedures continue to find the whereabouts of the partner of the Venezuelan citizen, the main accused of the crime.
