Double long weekend: the expectation of the tourism sector in Mendoza

In the coming weeks there will be a long weekend that will be complemented and joined with another with the same characteristics, leaving a week that will have only two business days. Many Mendoza residents, despite the economic conditions, are thinking about a possible trip within the province or to another corner of the country. At the same time, other tourists think about reaching Mendoza as a destination to spend a few days.

Specifically, next Monday, June 17, will be a holiday for the passage to immortality of General Don Martín Miguel de Güemes and the first long weekend will take place there. Tuesday and Wednesday will be “normal days” and then Thursday, June 20 and Friday, June 21 will be a holiday again.

Firstly, due to the passage to the immortality of Manuel Belgrano (Flag Day) and it falls on Friday for tourist reasons according to the Government.

The private parties revealed that it will be a weekend with a lot of national influx, although the reservation levels have not yet reached “promising” levels for the moment.

They also clarified that a lot of demand is expected on the date and that levels may continue to increase in the coming days.

From the Chamber of Tourism of Mendoza explained to MDZ that the evaluation they make for the “first section”, that is, for the long weekend in Güemes on 6/17, it is expected that occupancy will be greater than 30%. While the information for the weekend of 6/20 indicates that levels will rise to 70%.

At the same time, in high-end hotels between 4 and 5 stars, an occupancy of between 50% and 60% is expected and they highlighted that “it has always been a weekend of medium volume”, since it is close to winter holidays and those two weeks are used by Argentine families to rest since there are no classes and that is worth traveling.

In this regard, the president of Emetur, Gabriela Testa commented that there will be tourist movement throughout the week, with a flow that will rotate with a peak, probably, between Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd.

“Given that June has more affordable prices, it is likely that we will have a portion of tourists who were planning to travel on winter holidays and will opt for these XXL weekends,” added Testa.

The Government estimates a projection of 60% of reservations in the week from June 15 to 23, with peaks on weekends.

The numbers will change as the date approaches and the Government is waiting to confirm the number of tourists who will arrive in the province of Mendoza during that weekend. At the same time, they clarified that programs such as “Sale Mendoza” are in force, which provide a 30% discount when it comes to tourism within the province, while waiting for the start of the winter holidays.
