In the last minutes, the Colombian Geological Survey reported that a significant increase in seismic activity at the Nevado del Huila volcano.

The entity indicated that the increase in tremors is mainly related to an increase in the flow of the Páez River.

“From today, at 11:10 am and until the time of issuance of this bulletin, A seismic signal associated with a flood in the Páez River has been recorded. In the sectors of Yusayú and Tóez (municipality of Páez, in the department of Cauca)”, reports the Colombian Geological Service.

Likewise, the entity attached to the Ministry of Mines assures that: “Increases in the flow of the river with an appreciable mud content have been reported. The origin of this river flood is still uncertain, but it could be due to possible mass movements, in areas close to the volcano or the activity of the volcanowhich remains to be confirmed once we have access to visual records.”

In the extraordinary bulletin, the SGC recalls that: “the alert status of the volcano remains at YELLOW”: active volcano with changes in the behavior of the base level of the monitored parameters and other manifestations.

Likewise, the entity recommends to the residents of the areas surrounding the Páez riverbed, be attentive to the behavior of the flow and the level of the river, as well as follow the recommendations issued by local authorities and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management.

The institute has assured that climatic conditions of high cloudiness and rain that have been presented in the last few hours They have not allowed us to observe the upper part of the volcano through satellite sensors and the web cameras installed to monitor surface activity.

It is worth remembering that the felt earthquakes are phenomena contemplated in the state of yellow alert and alert the communities surrounding the area, which belong to the departments of Cauca, Huila and Tolima.
