The exhaustive investigation continues into the violent assault followed by rape of a young couple on Thursday night, La Costanera de Chimbas. Throughout Friday, the authorities continued working and early this Saturday three suspects were arrested.
Prosecutor Eduardo Martínez of UFI CAVIG, in charge of this case, reported that three individuals suspected of participating in this atrocious attack against the couple were arrested after 7:30 a.m. this Saturday. The raids were carried out by different Police brigades in the vicinity of the Los Cardos neighborhood, in Chimbas, near Centenario and National Route 40. This area is located away from the Costanera Predio Ferial, located on Salta and Costanera streets.
Judge Gema Guerrero issued the search warrant, which was supported by Cavig’s prosecutor after presenting all the relevant evidence. In this way, the three individuals were detained and in the next few hours they must appear before the judge to be notified of the charges against them in a formalization hearing before next Tuesday, when 72 hours have passed since the arrest.
It should be noted that the violent event took place on an unpaved street behind the entrance to the Costanera Predio Ferial, precisely between Salta streets and the entrance identified as “Boletería 4”.
According to the complaint filed by the prosecution, a young couple went to the area of Costanera Avenue in Chimbas in search of a moment of privacy, however, they were attacked by at least two criminals while they were inside the vehicle. In addition to robbing them, they forced them to strip naked and sexually assaulted the 20-year-old girl.
After stealing the little money they had with them and their cell phones, the thieves abandoned the victims in the area. Shortly after, the two young people calmed down a bit and sought help so they could make the corresponding report.
At first, the search for those responsible was made difficult by the lack of security cameras in the exact area of the attack. “We are searching the periphery and expanding the search area for cameras. The closest camera is on the roundabout, on the corner of Salta Street, but we are trying to expand the search radius,” the prosecutor had said.
