”The order is to neutralize the EMC in Cauca and Valle”: Petro after attacks in Popayán and Jamundí

TFollowing the terrorist attacks against the Police that occurred in Popayán (Cauca) and Jamundí (Valle del Cauca), allegedly perpetrated by the ‘Central General Staff’ of the FARC, President Gustavo Petro has assured that the order is to militarily attack this structure. “The army offensive will be total as long as they do not decide to dismantle illicit economies, since there will be no peace talks,” the president stated on his X account.

Petro pointed out that this dissident structure of the extinct FARC guerrilla, led by alias ‘Iván Mordisco’, lives off the export of cocaine and “wanted a ceasefire without stopping killing and controlling the population.” “What the ‘EMC’ exercises in Cauca is a subjugation of the population just to maintain greed. Therefore, his achievements are the death of civilians,” he added.

“The use of bombs against the population is their way of reacting to the military offensive in Micay, which is where they carry out their illicit cocaine business,” added President Petro. The president has made it clear that the order is to neutralize the ‘EMC’ in Cauca and Valle del Cauca.

This position of the government towards the armed groups that refuse to abandon illegal economies and continue to terrorize the civilian population marks a change in the negotiation strategy.

It is worth remembering that on June 7, the dissidents of the Central General Staff attacked the Popayán Police station with explosive devices that were launched from drones; and they also attacked a public park in Jamundí through a gray camper that detonated near the place.
