It will be the Lucio Fariña de Quillota Bicentennial that will kick off the round of 16 of the Chile Cup. saint Louis will receive Everton on June 14 and, from there, we will have four days of competition.

It’s good that Chilean football is not completely over! The winter break is an ordeal for lovers of the Chilean Premier League. That is why the Chile Cup comes a little to spice up that long wait of more than a month.

The big three, Colo Colo, Universidad de Chile and Universidad Católica, have modest rivals. While on Sunday the 16th, the Cacique will face Colegio Quillón (4:00 p.m.) and the UC will face Glorias Navales (5:30 p.m.), the U will wait until Monday to visit Municipal Puente Alto (7:00 p.m.).

Last year, it was Colo Colo who won the trophy, beating Magallanes in the final. And although this tournament has many characteristics similar to that of 2023, there is a big difference and it has to do with the minutes of the youth players.

Less demand

This year there will be no single U21 rule. In the 2023 Chile Cup, it was expected that there would be at least four players under 21 on the scoresheet for each match. In addition, it was expected that between them they would add up to 130 minutes.

In the current competition, the system was modified. It is no longer required to have so many U-21s and the commitment to youth was qualified. It was decided, in their replacement, to have slightly older players.

That is why the Chile Cup will allow the inclusion of at least two U-21 players on the roster of each team and two U-23 players. That is to say, the age of, precisely, two of the previously requested players was raised by two years.

In addition, the 130 minutes of play that teams are required to have their youth players on the playing field was also expanded and today it is simply required that they be Under-23 players.
