The city of Corrientes hosted the competition, which brought together more than 400 participants from different parts of the region. “We want to continue instilling physical activity in our children, which is very good for their future and society in general,” said the mayor. In addition, he valued the contribution of this discipline in the fight against problematic consumption in the youngest.

During the morning today, Mayor Eduardo Tassano approached the San Martín Club, located in Salta 1357, to greet and support the participants of the Regional Taekwondo Tournament. The competition brought together more than 400 athletes of different ages and provinces.

“I think there are three things that are fundamental and that bring us together here today: the first has to do with being able to bring sport closer to our children and young people; secondly, the values that taekwondo generates in each of them; and thirdly, the function that this discipline plays to counteract problematic consumption in our society,” said the municipal president.

The organization of the activity was in charge of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Undersecretariat of Sports Development and Major Events, headed by Matias Bocalón, together with the Civil Association Higher Taekwondo Academy (ITF), led by Jorge Demarchi. The tournament includes different ages, from 5 years old and up, with three categories: adults, youth and children.

“The work carried out by this academy has trained many children and young people in Corrientes and Argentina with exceptional criteria. We are very grateful to the institution and proud that this type of tournament is held in our city,” commented the mayor, valuing the work of the Demarchi Taekwondo Association.

In this framework, athletes from the Capital and also from other towns such as Santa Ana and Ituzaingó participated, as well as visitors from other provinces such as Santa Fe, Chaco and Formosa. The idea is to expand the scope and that in the next editions athletes from other provinces and countries, such as Paraguay, can join.

JOINT WORK FOR THE PROMOTION OF SPORTS
The Undersecretary of Sports Development and Major Events highlighted the work carried out by the municipality to promote physical activity in the city and mentioned that for years they have collaborated jointly with the Higher Taekwondo Academy Association to hold these meetings.

Furthermore, Bocalón explained that taekwondo is not just another sport, but “it is a very loyal discipline, where a lot of conduct is applied, which imparts essential values and where families accompany.”

For his part, the president of the organizing Association, Jorge Demarchi, thanked the mayor and the municipal management for their support: “this discipline is a great tool for children and young people in preventive health matters, education and for training in values,” he commented.
