Apparently tired of the constant mistreatment, a woman burned her ex-partner with boiling water, identified as Máximo Primera Barreto, 46 ​​years old and of Venezuelan nationality.

The man is in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of the General University Hospital of the Caribbeanin Cartagena, with second and first degree burns on 90% of his body.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred last Friday afternoon, when Primera Barreto went to her ex-partner’s home, located in the Nelson Mandela neighborhood.

Apparently, there was a strong argument between the two, and the woman, in an act of defense, sprayed a flammable liquid on him, which caused his clothes and skin to catch fire.

“​The 46-year-old patient was initially transferred to the Health Management Clinic, providing a report of a second and third degree burn with more than 90% of the body surface on the back, lower and upper limbs, which was located in the ICU Intensive Care Unit of the Caribbean University Hospital with a reserved prognosis,” said doctor Álvaro Cruz, coordinator of the Regulatory Center for Disaster Emergencies and Emergencies (CRUED).

Seriously injured, Primera Barreto managed to walk on his own to the San Fernando Health Management Clinic, where he received immediate medical attention.

A citizen who witnessed the incident recorded a video of the victim while he walked to the medical center, covering himself with a towel and showing severe burns on his arms, chest and back, the latter being the most affected area.

According to unofficial sources, the woman had reported Primera Barreto that same day in the morning for domestic violence, alleging that the man had threatened to kill her and tried to physically attack her.

The authorities would have attended to the complaint, but in the afternoon, Primera Barreto showed up at her ex-partner’s house to complain to him for reporting her.

A witness to the events stated that the woman acted in self-defense, since Primera Barreto frequently hit her.
