They rescued 51 exotic birds and moved them to Gualeguaychú – Diario El Argentino de Gualeguaychú. Online edition

The Environmental Control Brigade of the Undersecretary of Environment of the Nation, together with the Chajarí Delegation of the Argentine Federal Police and the Directorate of Natural Resources of the Province of Entre Ríos, carried out a raid on an illegal exotic bird farm.

As a result of the procedure, 51 birds of different species of pheasants were seized, of which five are found in different appendices established by National Law No. 22,344 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), based on the agreement signed in Washington. Among the specimens found, there are three pairs of Swinhoe’s Pheasants, which belong to the list of the most controlled species and appear in Appendix I of the aforementioned convention.
During the search it was found that there were golden pheasants, as well as more common ones such as Japanese chickens, peacocks and common guineas. “The conditions in which they were found were not optimal and the facilities were not optimal,” said the director of Natural Resources and Inspection of Entre Ríos, Marcelo Sapetti. Also during the tour, dead and scattered ducks, turkeys and domestic chickens could be found.

The agents of the National Environment Ministry proceeded to confiscate and transfer the birds because they did not have documentation of legitimate possession and origin of the specimens, which represents a breach of the aforementioned Law No. 22,421 on the Conservation of the wildlife. The kidnapped birds were transferred to the “El Potrero” Reserve, in the city of Gualeguaychú. (source: ERA Verde)
