The reading promotion contest was born as an extension of El Placer de Oír Leer, the largest reading aloud contest in the country, and calls on students from all over Chile to create a video in which they present a book that they find especially interesting and that they want to share. Those who want to participate must apply until July 31 at www.elplacerdeoirleer.cl/yo-te-cuento

The first version of “I tell you“, contest promoted by Ibáñez Atkinson Foundation which last year had a successful pilot and which was born as an extension of the renowned contest The Pleasure of Listening to Reading (EPOL)which since its creation in 2014 has impacted more than 193 thousand children throughout the country.

The initiative is aimed at students of 7th and 8th grade at the national level and seeks to expand the impact of EPOL and invites to create a 1 to 2 minute video in which the participants present a book that is of special interest to you and that you wish to recommend.

To do this, students must form a team of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 members who appear on the screen and, in addition, have a teacher or reading mediator to support the text selection and analysis process.

In the images, participants must mention the title and name of the author of the book they selected, when they read it, what elements they found most striking and why they recommend it, without revealing spoilers or relevant data, such as the end of a story, among others. A task for which they will be able to use all the audiovisual resources they consider appropriate, which will be taken into account in the evaluation that will be carried out by experts in the area.

Daniela del Valle, general manager of Fundación Ibáñez Atkinson, explained that “at Fundación Ibáñez Atkinson we have a deep commitment to the education and comprehensive development of children in Chile. That is why we are motivated to be able to once again invite 7th and 8th grade students from our Reading area to be part of the first version of this contest that was born from the El Placer de Oír Leer contest.

“This 2024, Yo Te Cuento takes a new step on a path that it began to travel successfully last year in the form of a pilot project, as a contest that values the construction of a community based on the powerful connection that is generated when we share stories that move us,” he noted.

The general manager of Fundación Ibáñez Atkinson said that “we hope that, as with EPOL, there will be thousands of children who participate and accompany us in Yo Te Cuento, being protagonists of a great reading adventure.”

“Last year we had a great experience with our first winners of the Yo Te Cuento pilot. This year we are very happy to be able to make the first official version and we are sure that we will have many teams competing. It is important that you know that seventh and eighth grade students from all over the country can participate and that teams can have students from both levels. There may even be a crossing of schools, communes and regions. So we hope that this is a first version where we are very entertained and see extraordinary recommendations for your favorite books,” says Marco Montenegro, national manager of the contest.

For her part, Mariana Hidalgo, programming director of NTV, highlights that “linking the pleasure and benefit of reading to different experiences seems like a tremendous opportunity to us. And giving boys and girls more possibilities to participate, where they are given a creative challenge and for them to be protagonists in an entertaining way, only motivates us.”

Applications will be open until July 31, 2024 in www.elplacerdeoirleer.cl/yo-te-cuento. Likewise, in August the winners of the contest will be announced, who will have the opportunity to make a new version of their recommendation video together with professionals from the audiovisual area, which will be broadcast during the grand national final of the EPOL contest on the NTV open signal. , as well as take a tour of the facilities of this channel.
