“The determination of President Gustavo Petro has been to assume the tariff optionwhich was a debt left by Colombian households on energy bills after the pandemic due to decisions of the previous government, like a public debt“, Minister Camacho began explaining.

To achieve this, as explained by the head of the mining and energy portfolio, “Let’s go, in the first phase to deliver some loans that were already in progress through public banks. These loans have grace periods, so that companies do not have to charge families,” he explained.

On the other hand, he mentioned that “on July 20 we will file a law from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Mines and Energy so that the debt that the public banks would now have is added by the State”.

When will the reduction be reflected?

Minister Camacho explained that “Starting with the next bill, these reliefs should begin to be reflectedwhich can range, depending on the company and the market (if it is in the Caribbean, if it is other companies that are in the coffee region), between 4% to 20%. In the Caribbean we would have on average a 10% reduction as a result of assuming this debt“But this goes hand in hand with other measures that we are adopting to transform and adjust the formula for energy generation in the country, so this is the beginning of a series of measures to guarantee reductions in the rate.”
