This Monday the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric Font, arrived at the Federal Chancellery of Germany for the first activity of his Official Visit to this country. There he was received by the Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, with whom he walked along the esplanade of the building to receive the corresponding honors as Head of State.

Together with the German Chancellor, they held a bilateral meeting to which the respective delegations later joined. At the end, President Boric and Chancellor Scholz made a joint statement in which they reaffirmed the relationship between both countries based on the values ​​of democracy, Human Rights and sustainable development.

“Our relationship with Germany is dynamic, diverse, it has historical ties that include economic, political and cultural spheres. This visit seeks to account for all these dimensions and for us and for me, as a representative of the State of Chile, it is an honor. that we are received here, at the German Chancellery, giving an account of the respect that Chile has in Europe. We are addressing a busy agenda. In particular, we talked about our National Lithium Strategy, about the Green Hydrogen Action Plan. We tell you about the measures we are taking to address the impacts of the climate crisis, as well as initiatives we are carrying out to accelerate the growth of our economy, with a focus on boosting innovation,” said President Gabriel Boric.

Germany has a stock of investments in Chile of more than US1 billion and played a relevant role in the recent negotiation that concluded in the modernization of the Advanced Framework Agreement with the European Union.

“One of the things we were talking about is that, at this moment, Latin America is no longer only, as it was for a long time during the 20th century, a region that can be supported, but also an equal partner with the rest of developed countries in order to face the challenges that the world has, particularly regarding the climate crisis. For this reason, today we can proudly say, to give examples, that in our country two thirds of the energy we generate comes from clean sources. “said the Head of State.

Colonia Dignidad

On June 12, 2017, the Governments of Chile and Germany signed a memorandum of understanding for the creation of a mixed German-Chilean commission to address the historical memory of Colonia Dignidad and the integration of its victims into society. “This has taken significant steps, in particular, in recent days with the announcement we have made to begin the process of expropriation of a part of Colonia Dignidad that also has the support of the German Government, as the Chancellor has expressed. Scholz, and where Germany will contribute significantly and directly to the construction of the Center for Archives and Historical Memory, in addition to supporting and continuing the work for the reparation of the victims, who are heterogeneous, of different types, but where we are going to continue working together,” highlighted President Boric.

The ministers accompanying the President of the Republic in Germany are the Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, Nicola’s Grau; the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Luis Cordero; the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Mun~oz, the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow; and the Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Aise´n Etcheverry.
