The 4.4 MW La Criolla solar plant, located in the municipality of Santo Domingo, province of Villa Clara, has been inaugurated. The facility is a donation from the Chinese government.

The facility joins two others donated by the Chinese government, located in Morón (Ciego de Ávila province) and Miramar (Holguín). Together, the three plants have 12 MW of installed capacity.

At the inauguration, the Chinese ambassador to Cuba, Ma Hui, highlighted that the project is part of the cooperation between China and Cuba within the so-called Belt and Road Initiative.

The Belt and Road Initiative is a global infrastructure development and international cooperation strategy launched by China in 2013. Other countries that are also part of it include Bahrain, Belarus, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary , Latvia, Lithuania, Mongolia, Malaysia, Poland, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Thailand, Serbia and the United Arab Emirates.

For her part, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba, Déborah Rivas, also present at the inauguration, said that there is the government’s will to execute an “investment offensive” aimed at adding 1,000 MW to the Cuban energy matrix. , while seeking to reduce fuel consumption in electricity generation, according to the information.

“These three new parks will provide a generation of 19.2 GWh annually, equivalent to 5,000 annual tons of fuel stopped being used,” added the official.
