Torrential downpour wreaks havoc in Sitionuevo, Magdalena

In Sitionuevo, Magdalena, a torrential downpour recorded in the last few hours has left significant material damage and several houses flooded, affecting numerous families. The strong winds accompanying the downpour caused a tree to fall on a house, partially destroying it. Fortunately, no human losses were reported, only material damage. The affected home is located in the El Rincón neighborhood, behind the Joaquín Palacio field, in the urban area of Sitionuevo.

The Sitionuevo Fire Department and community leaders were present at the scene to respond to the emergency. The house was cordoned off for security. The Secretary of Government of the municipality, Yair Magdonal Gutiérrez Hernández, is in charge of the situation, coordinating with the Fire Department and managing the necessary aid.

Haffit David, a resident of the Simón Bolívar neighborhood of Sitionuevo, expressed his concern: “We respectfully call on the municipal mayor of Sitionuevo, Magdalena, to help us with this problem that today harms us in the neighborhood and also in everything.” the municipality in general. Hundreds of houses were flooded, even one house that was completely collapsed by a tree that fell on it. Luckily there were no injuries. This is the problem that affects us today in the neighborhood, since the mouth is completely blocked and the pipe is completely full. I respectfully call on my friend Mayor Alfredo Navarro Manga to expedite this problem as soon as possible and also be able to solve and help the family that today is facing this calamity due to the collapse of their house due to this natural phenomenon. »

David also added, “Likewise, I put in context and make a call to all relief and disaster management organizations (Civil Defense, UNGRD) and also to the Government of Magdalena, to provide support to all the families of the municipality.” “Who today find themselves in this calamity due to these rains that are hitting the Caribbean Region today.”

It is worth remembering that the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (IDEAM) announced in recent days the start of the tropical cyclone season on the Caribbean coast, the effects of which are already being felt. The rains have been constant in the Palafitos Towns, Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta, where a year ago precisely these fishing communities suffered an atmospheric phenomenon that left great havoc in Nueva Venecia.
