Thelma was accompanied by her lawyers. The first person to speak was Paola García Reydeputy director of Amnesty International Argentina.
“We are very excited and very moved by the decision. Finally, Justice did justice and in a historic ruling with a majority of two, the actor Juan Darthés was declared guilty in the rape trial.”, he assured.
And he continued: “This is the right direction to reverse the patterns of impunity that flood the region. In Argentina, according to the UFEM, only 15.5% of complaints for sexual crimes lead to convictions. In Brazil, only 1%.”
“The justice system valued the word of the victim and understood, precisely, that in this type of crime its main evidence is its voice, which is why “Respect for their times and credibility in their word are essential.”he continued.
He also stated that “during this journey, Thelma was just a victim of the abusive situation. Also, since he dared to report, he was the object of a campaign of violence, harassment and hatred with waves of harassment on the networks.”
Carla Andrade Junqueira, the actress’s lawyer before the Brazilian justice system, and Martín Arias Duval, her lawyer before the Argentine justice system, also participated in the conference.
