The VIII Goat Exhibition was held with great success

50 goat and sheep producers along with 30 artisans from the General Belgrano Department exhibited their specimens and exhibited the typical products derived from goat production in this event of provincial and departmental significance that brought together more than 2,500 people from the region. and from neighboring provinces, on June 7 and 8 at the María Rosa Mística Field belonging to the Dr. Pedro Ignacio de Castro Barros Institute, in the town of Chañar Dpto. Gral. Belgrano, province of La Rioja.

The Dr. Pedro Ignacio de Castro Barros Institute together with the INTA EEA La Rioja through the Chamical Rural Extension Agency, local producers, UNLaR, Chamical Regional Headquarters, Municipality of the General Belgrano Department, Secretary of Livestock and Ministry of Production and Environment of the province of La Rioja work together on the organizing table with the aim of showing the productive potential of the region, promoting and making visible goat and sheep production and the added value of the productions derived from this activity.

Over the two days, the public saw 120 goats and sheep in the corral sector, while in the central courtyard they found an exhibition of artisans with 30 local and Chamical Department stands and five institutional ones. At the INTA La Rioja stand, the public learned about the advances in research through the use of the drone, the importance of zampa, beekeeping and goat production in the region and agroecological gardens.

There were also demonstrations of craft beer and mead making and the tasting of typical goat foods. In addition, the Peasant Movement of Los Llanos Riojanos (MO.CA.LLa.R) was presented and information on brands and signs was provided by the Provincial Health Commission (COPROSA).


As a training proposal for producers, a discussion on goat health was held by professionals from INTA La Rioja and UNLaR, Chamical regional headquarters. Three breeds were evaluated in goats: Criollo, Boer and Nubian and in sheep, animals for wool and meat, in the male and female categories. During siesta hours, the artistic shows took center stage, and the parade of undertaken horses took place. The prizes were later awarded to the winning producers of this exhibition.

It is worth mentioning that this exhibition included the visit of Vice Governor Teresita Madera, Minister of Production and Environment Ernesto Pérez, Provincial Deputy Paul Mercado, Mayor of the Department of General Belgrano, Juan Urbano, Director of INTA La Rioja Ana Córdoba and local councilors . Madero congratulated the organizing committee for the work carried out and urged them to continue working for the small ruminant production sector.
