In the case over the sand pits that operate in the departments of Islas del Ibicuy and Gualeguaychú, “a criminal complaint was filed for alleged noncompliance with the duties of a public official (art. 248, of the Penal Code), for omission of control, ideological falsehood against the Minister of Economic Development, Guillermo Bernaudo since he has the Secretary of the Environment under his orbit.”

This entity was reported to the Secretary of Environment of the province of Entre Ríos, Rosa Hojman, the president of CORUFA, Ricardo Iturriza, the general director of Mining Development, as well as the mayor of Ibicuy, Ezequiel Maneiro.

It is due to the “administrative responsibilities of the position they hold in the supervision and/or authorization of mining activity such as the silica sand washing plants in the Islas del Ibicuy Department,” Luciano told R2820.

In one part of the foundations it was argued that “everyone is responsible for executing the requirements prior to the granting of the “Certificate of Environmental Aptitude” or in other words the permit for exploitation of any mining company, they are also responsible for compliance with what is reported in the Environmental Impact Study presented to the Ministry of the Environment by the sand mills and silica sand washing plants and others.”

For his part, the complaint to the municipal president of Ibicuy, Ezequiel Maneiro, is because he must monitor the expiration/renewal date granted by the certificate of environmental suitability and which, according to the Ibicuy Municipality website, has expired since May 10 ”.

Also because it must promote “renewing the Environmental Impact Studies of the sand washing plants and sand pits that are located in its jurisdiction. According to the Municipality of Ibicuy, the La República de Cristamine SA sand washing plant has expired the certificate whose duration is two years since it was granted on May 10, 2022.
