The Ministry of Culture’s call is open until July 8, offering financial support to Brazilian publishers interested in the translation, publication and circulation of works by Colombian authors.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge and its Directorate of Strategy, Development and Entrepreneurship, and the National Library of Colombia, with the support of CoCrea, offer financial support to interested Brazilian publishers in the translation, publication and circulation of works by Colombian authors in Brazil.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the financial support for each publication project will have a single value of $20,000,000 Colombian pesos, eight projects will be financed: seven will be incentives to translate Colombian authors presented by Brazilian publishers, and one incentive will be will support the translation of La vorágine by José Eustasio Rivera into Portuguese.

The maximum date to have published books will be February 2025, although priority will be given to those projects that may be available to readers who will attend the São Paulo Paulo Book Biennial, from September 6 to 15, 2024.​

With this call, works by Colombian authors will be supported, in genres such as novels, short stories, poetry, books for children and young people, graphic novels, comics, essays, journalism, among others.

Requirements

Publishers interested in opting for financial support must send an official communication giving information on the following aspects:

  • General information about the work to be published: Title, author, literary genre, publisher of publication in Spanish.
  • Brief review of the publisher, with mention of at least 5 published titles.
  • Letter of commitment signed between the applicant editor in Brazil and the beneficiaries of the original work (author, agent, editor and/or heirs) in which they commit to carrying out the translation and publication if they win the support.
  • Information about the budget of the publication project. It must be specified in which stages of the publication said support will be invested.
  • Obtain the respective licenses, authorizations or permits required by Brazilian law.
  • ​Send four copies of the published work, at the end of the process, to the National Library of Colombia – BNC (Calle 24 # 5-60, Bogotá DC).
