Valle del Cauca joins the Fecode national strike, where different protest activities will be carried out with the purpose of rejecting the project presented by the Ministry of Education that, according to teachers, delays the achievements obtained for the country’s education.

The approval of the reform is aimed at the privatization of education, generating effects on the public education system and more than 500,000 students in the region.

“They want to end public education and they also express, within what they have amended, the lack of guarantee for the implementation of three-grade preschool in public schools that we had already agreed with the government. Apart from that, school vouchers would be created that aim to give official money to private schools,” said Víctor Manuel Cabrera, national director of the Colombian Federation of Workers, Fecode.

For this reason, teachers declare a permanent strike which will begin this Wednesday tomorrow and will end with a big takeover in the country’s capital next week.

“Wednesday the 12th a great mobilization, on Thursday the 13th assemblies with teachers, on Friday June 14th assemblies with parents to socialize information about the national strike and from Monday June 17th to 20th, It will be the great takeover of Bogotá, there in Bolívar square, some tents will be set up until they are heard by the Government,” Cabrera explained.

The capital of Valle del Cauca hopes to receive this Wednesday, in a day of mobilization, the participation of teachers from the 42 municipalities of the Valley. Currently, the department has more than 20,000 teachers who will join the national strike.

“Everyone is gathered at 9:00 in the morning at the old Railway Station, that is, at the back of the transport terminal. We leave through the main streets, heading towards the center and we arrive“It is a central activity that will be in the Plazoleta de San Francisco,” said Luis Fernando Jaramillo, teacher and general secretary of the CUT Valle.

Students from the Sena and other unions and social organizations will join this march. Classes in Valley schools will be suspended, for the moment, until new decisions are made.
