The constant clashes that occurred in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada between armed groups in the dispute over the territory and the public force cause concern among the communities settled there, who through a statement have warned of a Civic Strike for Peace in the Troncal of the Caribbean, demanding the installation of a dialogue table.
The document signed by the Association of Presidents and Community Leaders of the Troncal del Caribe (Asocomunales), the Indigenous Communities of Arhuacos, Koguis, Wiwas, peasant communities, Afro-descendants, merchants, and the tourism union, specifically requests President Petro for the implementation of the Table of dialogues for Peace in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in the Northern Zone, in the towns of Guachaca, Minca and Bonda.
“Likewise, we inform the President and others of the different interventions, stigmatization of the members of the indigenous and Afro peasant communities, as well as the military confrontations that have been taking place in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, leaving in the middle of the crossfire the peasant, indigenous and other population communities that are part of this territory” says the statement.
The event, whose associations have requested support from the authorities for the Peaceful March, will take place this Wednesday, June 12, 2024 in the Troncal del Caribe, it will be exactly in the Mendihuaca village on highway 190, km 30 in front of the National Natural Park Tayrona.
The district government is already preparing all the supporting logistics to prevent any type of disturbance to public order that may occur in this area.
It is worth mentioning that last weekend a new gunfight was recorded, after an operation by the National Army that sought to capture alias ‘Cholo’, the new head of the Conquistadoras Self-Defense Forces of the Sierra Nevada, which left the communities and where a non-commissioned officer lost his life.
