To commemorate the 64th anniversary of Casa Cuna, the governor Marcelo Orrego witnessed the inauguration of the SUM, which was built with the contribution of the entity’s partners and the collaboration of the San Juan community. The governor was accompanied by health ministers Amilcar Dobladez; from Family, Carlos Platero, president of Casa Cuna, Liliana Moreno de García; Rawson Hospital authorities, other officials and representatives of the institution.

Casa Cuna is a transition home whose objective is to welcome babies and children in vulnerable situations. The genuine resources arise from the contributions of the members and the community of San Juan and are allocated primarily to essential human resources, social worker psychologist and permanent staff in charge of the daycare in addition to the necessary maintenance. So thanks to the contributions of anonymous people, volunteers and social contributions, work has been going on for more than a year to build the SUM. This space is used for board of directors meetings and various tasks that are called.

In this context, Governor Marcelo Orrego said: “This prestigious institution is celebrating 64 years. There are many people who have collaborated and who have been present, showing how these institutions, with their altruistic sense, generate the possibility of helping, especially in the moments of childhood. Those little caresses to the souls of many boys and girls, of course, who in difficult times are accompanied by godmothers and people who support them. So, in this case, we celebrate twice, because we will also be able to inaugurate the event. SUM”.

He added that “I only have words of congratulations and admiration for all those who make up Casa Cuna.”
For her part, the president of Casa Cuna said: “Today we joyfully celebrate our 64th anniversary and the inauguration of the Multipurpose Room. I thank everyone for sharing this special and memorable moment.

This achievement was achieved thanks to events, donations and the collaboration of many generous people. I thank those who contributed to the work and all those who supported anonymously.

Also, I thank the person in charge of the work, the governor for his presence and recognition, and the members of the board of directors and the person in charge of the house for their effort and dedication.”

Casa Cuna was born on June 11, 1960, at the initiative of the members of the San Juan Lions Club, in order to assist children in vulnerable situations from their early childhood. It is one of the oldest in the country.

It is a place where they are cared for and protected, usually because they were abandoned, abused, or do not have a safe place to live. This institution provides them with medical care, food, education and affection, with the aim of providing a safe and loving environment for their integral progress. It should be noted that we work in accordance with the juvenile courts and the different sectors of the Guillermo Rawson Hospital, in this way assistance is provided to children in their first years of life.
They are also responsible for finding them an adoptive home or a foster family when possible. In the case of addition, it offers residential services, psychological and social support, and health and food services; Casa Cuna also operates as an adoption agency.
The cognitive, physical and emotional development of children is encouraged and integration into a permanent home is promoted, encouraging the adoption of children who have been voluntarily given up as an option of love.
