Causes of the explosion in Pereira

According to the Fire Department report, Ten homes were damaged and 15 people were injured and taken to nearby healthcare centers.

A low-range vehicle containing two gas tanks was found at the scene. The authority indicated that the explosion was caused by a stationary LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) gas cylinder.

Early research suggests that a “improper handling” of these cylinders caused a gas leak. “This gas, due to its density, moved towards the homes, where upon coming into contact with a heat source, it generated the explosion,” Juan Camilo Ballesteros, director of the Fire Department, explained to local media.
