These places are at risk of mass removals, since the areas damaged by the February fire were declared unstable, according to the National Geology and Mining Service. The same occurs with the new sinkhole that affected the Euromarina 2 building and other towers, in Viña del Mar.

The imminent arrival of the frontal system in the Valparaíso region has increased concern about the consequences it could generate, specifically in the sectors affected by the megafire and in the sector of the new sinkhole, in Reñaca.

In fact, in light of this scenario, a Yellow Alert was declared in the province of Valparaíso and the commune of Quilpué.

The frigate captain, Gonzalo Concha, head of the Metrological Service of the Navy, maintained that this frontal system would be “arriving in the Valparaíso region starting Wednesday and will remain at least until Thursday, early Friday morning.”

“This condition will also be associated with intense rainfall in the coastal sector. The indicators are very fluctuating, they deliver between 50 to 100 millimeters of water fall, predicted. Also strong winds, which will generate bad weather conditions,” he added.

For his part, Lieutenant Commander Felipe Riffo warned that “due to the latest analysis and background we have of the frontal system, we have decided to increase the category of storm surges to abnormal storm surges. “We expect strong breakers, possible overpasses and potential damage to the infrastructure of the coastal edge, mainly the bays in the south-central part of the country.”

Likewise, meteorologist Miguel Fernández explained that the rains that will affect the Valparaíso region “are considered infrequent or uncommon, and would be some of the most intense that we would be observing, after a long time.”
