In the last monthly survey “Concerns of the World” made by Ipsosit was revealed that Chile presented an increase of three percentage points in its concern about crime and violence (69%), placing it once again in first place in the ranking in this matter.

The report that considers more than 24 thousand people in 29 countriesrevealed that in our country this category doubles the global average (30%), being above countries such as Sweden (30%) and South Africa (56%).

Jean-Christophe Salles, CEO Latam of Ipsosargues that “Although Chile continues to be one of the least violent and safest countries in Latin America, it is the significant and recent growth in violence that generates this concern among citizens”. Furthermore, he adds that “today Chileans are much more concerned about crime and violence than Mexicans or Colombians, when homicide or violence rates are much higher in those countries.”

In other matters, Immigration control (40%) stands out in second place in the country, well above the world average (16%), placing Chile in first place in the ranking. For Salles This must be treated “very carefully”, because “Until now no study has been able to show any relationship between immigration and crime and violence”.

The third and fourth biggest concerns in Chile are poverty and inequalityNext to the inflation, both with 29%. Both subjects increased by two percentage points compared to the month of April.

Meanwhile, other factors such as Unemployment (27%) and corruption (26%) recorded the most significant drops in the month of Maywith six and nine points respectively.

“The most important concerns of Chileans today appear much more focused on social issues than on economic issues. This does not mean that citizens do not have economic concerns, but in terms of priorities there is more concern about social issues that are also transversal to the entire population.“, held Salles.

Analyzing the global panorama, inflation is in first place in the ranking for the 25th consecutive time, with 34%. This is followed by poverty and inequality (30%), crime and violence (30%) and unemployment (27%).

Regarding the perception of the future, three out of four Chileans believe that the country is on the wrong path (76%), while in the world the vision is more positive (62%).
