Counselors of the Honorable Board of Directors of the UNC Faculty of Communication Sciences expressed their concern about the situation of the Radio and Television Services (SRT).
“Public media are fundamental pillars of democracy, to strengthen it, improve it and eventually defend it. Hence the social importance they have.”they expressed in a statement.
And they added: “In the same way as the public University, public university media are not only important because they guarantee access to information and free expression as universal human rights, but also because they provide knowledge, innovation, cultural identity, development educational and informative in the contents, contributing to these social purposes beyond economic profitability.”
This Tuesday the workers of the Radio and Television Services were in the UNC Superior Council to raise again the need to take care of jobs and guarantee the continuity of the company, a symbol of the democratic history of the province.
The councilors stated:
- We maintain our commitment to the SRT university media and its workers, for their primary role in the debate of ideas, plurality and access to information and culture.
- We actively participate in the construction of a Comprehensive Communication Plan in the medium and long term
- We promote a deeper connection and exchange with the Faculties.
- We urge to consolidate and strengthen the extension mission of the SRT in society.
- We defend the role of the SRT as a means of school for the complementary professional training of our students and graduates.
“Faced with the seriousness of the situation, the members of this Board of Directors require the authorities of the UNC and the Honorable Superior Council to accompany the defense and support of the SRT of the UNC”they concluded.
