A little history

Artistic engraving in Antioquia is a relatively recent practice compared to Europe.

In 1958engraving began to be recognized as a form of autonomous expression in the National Salons, with Aníbal Gil as one of the main representatives.

Since the 70’s This technique was implemented as a means of urban expression, reflecting social and urban problems.

This exhibition shows how engraving has evolved and how it has addressed issues of rural-urban transition, as well as the impacts of violence and drug trafficking in the 1980s. Paying tribute to artists such as: Pedro Nel Gómez, Ignacio Gómez Jaramillo, Aníbal Gil and Augusto Rendón.

Engraving is presented as a form of dynamic and evolutionary artconnected to the history of Antioquia, stands out for its ability to combine opposing principles and produce works that reflect life itself.

«The introspective line. Towards a history of engraving in Antioquia” at the Museum of Antioquia, brings together eighty artists from different generations who saw engraving as a personal and significant art form.

The exhibition, curated by Armando Montoyaallows us to understand the evolution of engraving and its relationship with the social and natural changes.
